Start early and get in on time. While you wait, read a book or solve the crossword. Okay play with your smart phone! Now watch the expression of the person you are to meet, when he/she is late. You have an upper hand!
Surprise everyone by sticking to the time given and you may surprise yourself. Let me give you a peep into the mind of the hostess who has invited you for dinner. She has been cooking up a storm, the house is sparkling clean and her only prayer is that everyone should come on time,otherwise …. The women want to eat early, the guys want to carry on with ‘one for the road’ till the cows come home… After repeated heating up of the food, everything tastes bad!
So guys, practice some empathy and get there. In the West, one is advised to carry a bottle of wine or flowers for the hostess. In India, both are acceptable as long as you are there on time.
So be kind when you are accepting an invitation for a meal—check the time for assembly and be there on the appointed time.
