You wake up and see that shirt ad in the paper with the chiseled features of the model. You switch on the radio of the car to hear the host’s baritone. You wait at the traffic signal and see the hot ride next to you with the hunk in the shades.
You reach work and spend the rest of the day wondering what is it that makes the guy, 3 cubicles down from yours, such a hit with everyone at work. You reach home in the evening and finally get to watch that action flick with the hero riding the fat bike of your dreams.
Sounds familiar? Would you like to be the person who people love? What is it that you aren’t doing that they are doing? Just fluke or God’s gift to mankind? Let’s see what it takes.
Work on your Craft

work on your craft
First things first, excel at whatever you do. Anyone you’d like to be has excelled in something. The hunk works hard towards his body, the radio host works to keep that baritone going, the model in the ad works hard in keeping his looks prim, the champ at work finishes his own work before going out the way for anyone. The key word here is CRAFT. Know what you are good at, then work towards excelling in it.
Understand your strengths

understanding your strengths
Craft excellence is that one single thing in which no one can beat you. Strengths are cumulative of the things you’re good at. It could be being able to change a tire, evenly buttering toast, partitioning your disk drives, etc. It doesn’t matter what you’re good at. If you’re good at it, know it and use it.
Being Seen

being seen
If you need to put yourself out there like a network plan banner, you are not doing something right. Being a man is not about shouting at the top of your lungs, it is about having a roaring silence. Being great at what you do will speak volumes by itself and get you seen in the right circles. Always remember, the joker of the group will always be just that- a joker.
Grooming & Dressing

grooming and dressing
The worst thing to be noticed is wearing something unsuitable. Broadly, if you’re not comfortable wearing something at any place then it is unsuitable. Being comfortable wearing what you want to wear without thinking about others, because what you wear sits great on you. It is not just the clothes, it is the shoes, the accessories, the way you do up your hair, shave, nails… EVERYTHING.
Practice, practice and then practice some more

practice
It will never be enough to rest once you’re good at something. Work on it, research on it, study on it. Do whatever it takes to keep getting better at it. In case you think you’re the best at whatever it is that you’re good at, find a new way of doing it. The crux is, the more you hone it the better you get at it.
What happens when you do the above? Do you just get better at something? Or does your appearance get better?
Too many movies and too many success stories have said just one thing. Be great at what you do and the rest will follow. When you’re good at your work, others come to learn from you or put you on a pedestal. You get a following. You start becoming a MAN.
